Mid-season greetings NRM Snow Pros!

The election for the board of directors is coming up and we are eagerly searching for the next leaders of NRM! If you are interested in a leadership role in our division and guiding the future of our organization, please consider running for one of our board positions.

NRM's current board of directors and CEO are hosting a virtual meeting on Thursday, February 17 at 7:00 pm. It's an informational/Q & A platform; open to all NRM members and candidates interested in a leadership role. Please join us here on Zoom.

Board members also receive one free NRM education clinic per year of service (after the first year of service and subject to availability).

All interested and eligible candidates, please provide a profile picture (optional but appreciated) and a brief statement introducing yourself and why you would like to serve in the board of directors (required). Please submit these to director@psia-nrm.org by Feb. 22nd. Voting will begin in early March.

Ramblings from the President

Wow, it's been great to be back on snow. 40 plus days into the season and my legs seem to be turning left and right with authority. My eye is calibrated for figuring out what my lessons are doing, and students and instructors are coming back after lessons with smiles on their faces. What more could you want? As we get into the meat of the season, many of us are thinking about getting ready for Level 2 and Level 3 certification. Instructors at Lost Trail can be seen out on the slopes practicing, working on improving their leg steering or keeping their center of mass over the base of support, fine tuning their teaching skills and thinking about how to nail the people skills. The locker room is abuzz with lots of discussions about lane changes and what an outside ski turn should look like punctuated with lots of hand gestures describing turn shape and edge angles. Train hard and do your best if you're heading to certification exams this year.

I'm also hearing frustration in some of my instructors when they come back from clinicing. Why can't I change, I don't understand what I'm doing that needs to change. We work on our skills to improve and get better to create better experiences for our guests, but in the end always remember why you slide on snow. Always remember that we slide on snow because we love the sensations, the freedom, the sharing good times with friends. That's why we train.

Did you know that the Northern Rockies Division of PSIA-AASI has the youngest demographics of our entire organization? The average age of our membership is in the 20 - 30 range. It's great to have such a young and vibrant community along with our longtime members. With a younger membership, it is important that we, as an organization, are meeting your needs and expectations. I would enjoy hearing from you to hear your thought and ideas. The Northern Rockies Board of Directors will be looking for young and new members that are interested in shaping how our division of PSIA-AASI can better engage with all members to make membership valuable to you.

With that in mind, Board of Directors elections are coming up in March. If you are interested in joining the board, check out the Board of Directors Election page. This year, there are three positions up for election.

Well, I have a client waiting for me. I've got to get my boots on. Cheers, remember "Ski fast and watch out for snowbanks."

Cheers,
